Boisbriand City Hall Civic Square
Following the launch of its Environmental Policy and the resulting Sustainable Development Action Plan, the City of Boisbriand sought to bring its commitments to life by initiating the demineralization and greening of the City Hall forecourt. The project aimed to transform this institutional space into a welcoming municipal place while tangibly demonstrating the City’s commitment to a necessary ecological transition.
Opaysage’s design proposal is organized around a formal space that highlights the façade of City Hall and its institutional role. Named Place de la Démocratie, the forecourt underscores the historical and symbolic significance of the municipal administration. Engravings integrated into the stone paving, steles and a commemorative plaque pay tribute to the political figures who have shaped the City’s municipal history.
The landscape composition introduces a strong vegetal presence to transform a previously highly mineralized site. More than twenty native trees, both coniferous and deciduous, structure the space and strengthen the urban tree canopy. Large areas of native flowering meadows enhance biodiversity while contributing to on-site stormwater management.
At the centre of the square, a granite reflecting pool sits within a circular composition that acts as a focal point for the forecourt. Clay brick paving was selected for several surfaces, its warm texture contrasting with bands of Saint-Marc stone engraved with the City’s values.
Designed according to the principles of universal accessibility, the project creates an inclusive municipal space where memory, landscape and ecological transition meet.
