Hôtel Bonaventure rooftop

Ville-Marie, Montréal
2017

The rooftop of Hôtel Bonaventure in downtown Montreal has quite a reputation: it is a one-hectare green oasis in the heart of the city where fish, ducks and great blue herons congregate in its little streams. Our firm was hired by this renowned institution to design plans to modernize the site and its vegetation.

To revitalize the space and restore it to its full potential, we drew upon the work from the garden’s creation 50 years ago and our own horticultural expertise, giving priority to native species. We proposed over 75 varieties of trees, shrubs and perennials to add beauty and colour to the site. We also unlocked the potential of the views from inside the hotel and within the garden itself by playing with plant heights to create spectacular garden vistas.

To offer visitors a contemporary experience, we integrated modern visual elements to enhance the garden, including glowing orbs near the water and projections on the building walls illustrating the site’s evolution.
