The Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles

The Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles is the largest protected wildlife area in the metropolitan region. A unique attraction in Quebec, it allows visitors to enjoy a multitude of activities according to the season, while respecting and observing the rich biodiversity of the site. Our mandate was therefore to design two secure and accessible boat launch ramps with the least possible ecological impact on the banks, despite the high traffic enjoyed by this wildlife park.

Our proposal was to create boat launch ramps using large flat stones that not only provide a solid base for boats to access the river and reinforce this part of the bank during periods of water flooding, but also serve as protection to preserve the exposed root systems of mature trees. We also suggested the integration of vegetated gabion boxes between the two ramps to stabilize eroded portions of the terrain and restore a natural aspect to the bank by proposing indigenous plantings.
